I just can’t get the troubling statistic out of mind: 92
percent of children raised in evangelical homes are
abandoning their faith between the ages of 18 and
29. For a couple of years, I had been using 88
percent, but at a WholeHearted Mothers Conference
in Texas this winter, one mother approached me
when I finished speaking and told me her husband
works for Josh McDowell Ministries. The new
statistic, she informed me, is now 92%.
Devastating. Unbelievable. Incomprehensible. I know
we have talked about this very thing in this
newsletter before. I don’t mean to beat a dead
horse, but as parents I think we need to keep this
statistic in the forefront of our minds. We cannot
afford to be apathetic when it comes to intentionally
and constantly teaching our children what it means
to be live as Christians in today’s secular world. We
must have a well-defined plan of action for raising
children who love God, if we do not want our children
to be part of the 92 percent clamoring to run out the
church door when they become “of age.”

Faye’s decision to homeschool placed her square in
the middle of a real-life obstacle course.
Homeschooling is difficult enough for a sighted
person—how can a blind mother of two wonderful,
curious, active boys homeschool??
