Behavior Worth Medicating

Inspiring Christians to Biblical Home Education
September 2007

Dear Christian family,
Everyone one of us probably knows someone whose child was diagnosed by the public school system as ADD or ADHD and told their child needed medication in order to remain in school. In an article you can find at the end of this newsletter titled Behavior Worth Medicating by Gregory Hession, Dr. Peter Breggin is quoted as saying, "All psychiatric treatments exert their primary or intended effect by disabling brain functions."
The term that affected me the most in this eye-opening statement was "disabling". Parents are wrongly told that 'drugs' will help their child, when in fact it is the exact opposite. In this same article, Kevin Hall, the New England director of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) claims that various maladies beginning in 1963 began to be literally invented. One of these invented mental disorders is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) which was voted in by the American Psychiatric Association in 1987, along with it's symptoms:
-
Often fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes in school work, work or other activities.
-
Often does not seem to listen when spoken directly.
-
Is often forgetful in daily activities.
-
Often fidgets with hands or feet or squirms in seat.
-
Often runs about, climbs or talks excessively.
Doesn't this sound normal for children? And for these types of normal behavior, public schools are forcing children to be medicated with powerful and unsafe psychotic drugs that "disable" brain functions.
The public school system cannot produce good fruit because it does not rely on Godly truth. For these reasons and others, please consider not supporting the system with your children. Consider the blessings of providing your child with a education based on truth in the safety of your loving home.
Our ministry goal is to help you provide your children with a Christian home education. Please consider forwarding this newsletter to your church, family and friends.
In His service,
Denise Kanter
P.S. If you feel your children have difficulties in concentration, remember the part of the brain -- the Frontal Lobe -- which is responsible for this capability does not fully develop until a child is 25. In the meantime, be patient while their brain matures as God has planned. Also, consider researching the benefits of DHA oil and brain development. |

Education - Not Information: A Perspective on Education:
The Bible: More Than Just Another Book by C.J. Horn
The Bible says "the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day" By contrast, the wicked don't even know what they stumble at. (Proverbs 4:18). In order to recognize error, one must have a strong working knowledge of truth.
Experts decry the present state of our educational system and develop and redevelop methods of education. People wonder why children of past generations were better educated, better thinkers, inventors and responsible citizens. It certainly isn't because those generations had the wealth of technology we have today, or better or bigger libraries. It isn't because their facilities were large or because their teachers were specialists in their respective fields.
The reason the children of past generations had a brighter future is because Psalm 36 is true. "In Thy light (the Lord's light), we shall see light." It has only been in recent generations that the Bible has been banned from the educational process. When truth is pulled from the foundation of education, then there can be no true illumination, only destruction.

Getting the Homeschool Journey Started
It is not uncommon for families to feel "buyer's remorse" after the first few weeks or months as new homeschoolers, and maybe with good reason. With every change or new beginning there will be struggles, some big, some small, and some monstrous. Maybe the in-laws are furious with your decision. Maybe you just can't seem to find time to finish all that you had planned in your day. Maybe cooperation has only seen a few moments or your house has seen better days. Sometimes, life just takes an unexpected turn.

Ready to start preschooling at home?
The major underlying commandment of homeschooling preschoolers is that it MUST be fun. After all, the 2, 3, or 4 year old that you're teaching is the one that thinks it's fun to empty the dishwasher, sort laundry, wash windows and take out the trash - so if something as simple as "school" is not fun for them, you're definitely doing something wrong! But before we get into troubleshooting what to do if they are not enjoying themselves, let me share with you what I have used or am currently using that has been successful (or we're anticipating to be successful this school year) for my two girls.
