Last year, not only was I homeschooling our five children two to twelve, I was the leader of a local homeschool support group, Commander for the AWANA club, I taught Sunday School once a month and attended a woman's Bible study. Sounds impossible doesn't it? At the end of our very busy year, I looked back and began to doubt whether it was productive enough from an academic standpoint. Sure my kids were involved in many Christian activities, Bible study and they were being trained from a Christian worldview, but were they learning?

If success was measured by a mother's ability to home school her children while her husband played a passive role, then my wife would receive a gold medal. Sadly, the realization of my shortcomings came only very recently, when I awoke to discover that my oldest child was now in the fourth grade. Seems like only yesterday when I was changing his diapers. Scratching my head, I concluded that God had blessed me by working wonders through my wife, even while I slept.

We went on a one-month family RV trip some time ago, and one of our stops was Patrick Henry College. I had heard many wonderful things about this emerging college, but I was not prepared for what I saw. My husband and I were blessed. Beautiful brick buildings on a sprawling lush campus. It was during a holiday, so we only met a few students, but they were gracious and courteous. We did have a chance to talk with the founder, Dr. Michael Farris who took some time to share with us the vision he has for PHC. If you are going to send your children to college, why not send them to PHC. Their mission below should be the goal of every parent. Denise Kanter
